Regulatory Commission to increase electricity rates
Regulatory Commission to increase electricity rates in the state. The commission’s move is to make the rate increase effective from November 1.
The Regulatory Commission is preparing to announce the revised electricity tariff for the year 2024-25 at the end of this month. The commission has decided the final tariff after seeking public opinion in various districts after KSEB recommended the rate hike. From January to May, KSEB has demanded a rate hike of 10 paise per unit including summer tariff. But the Regulatory Commission and the Electricity Department do not agree with this.
Since the left government came to power, the electricity tariff has been increased twice so far. The rate hike was implemented on June 26, 2022 and November 1, 2023. BPL category with 0-40 monthly usage was exempted from the hike. The remaining units were increased by 10 paisa to 90 paisa in two increments. In addition to this, the new rate hike recommendation is going to be implemented. During the UDF government, the rate was Rs 3.15 per 0-50 unit. Now it is Rs 3.25. It is recommended to increase this to Rs.3.35 in 2024-25 and Rs.3.50 in the following year.
